Houston Blow Pipe opened its doors
for business on January 19, 1908, known as Houston Blow Pipe & Sheet
Metal Works. At the time the company made Blow Pipe systems used for dust
collection in lumber mills.
In 1937 a young electrician from
Georgia moved to Houston to become the shop foreman. Mr. Redding would
eventually become the full owner of HBP in 1942. This was during World War
II and the company shifted its line of work to support the war effort. The
company produced products as small as ammunition lockers and as large as
smoke stacks for Battleships. Over the years the company produced a wide
range of products including gas heaters, incinerators, deer stands and
other sheet metal products. In 1967 the company moved to its current
location on Clinton Drive. The company then shifted its focus from
sheet metal to heavy plate. Heavy duty plate rolls and press brakes were
added to accommodate the needs of our customers. At the time that it was
built and installed, our 3,000 ton press was the largest ever produced by
Pacific Press.
Mr. Redding passed away in 2009. In
total, he put 70 years of his life into HBP. In 2009, HBP was purchased by
Houston Steel Plate, LLC, owned by Jeffrey Himmel. Jeff has extensive
experience in the steel industry and is also President of Artco Group
International (AGI).
Founded in 1949 as Artco Industrial
Company, Inc., AGI has its own long history in the heavy plate
business with expertise in sourcing, processing, distribution and quality
assurance. Since the acquisition of Houston Blow Pipe, investments
have been made in equipment, personnel, inventory and technology to bring
the company roaring in to the 21st century.
With the passing of the torch, it
is our goal to make sure that HBP can continue to evolve well in to the
future. We look forward to continuing to meet and exceed our customers’
expectations for quality, price and quick delivery. |
